Description

"NOCD-NY emerged from a series of roundtable conversations, between 2010 and 2011, where artists, activists, creative manufacturers, non-profit groups and policymakers convened to discuss the role that arts and culture play in strengthening New York City communities. By late summer 2011, NOCD-NY grew into a working alliance, generating a sustained commitment and citywide platform for revitalizing New York City from the neighborhood up.

Thanks to operating support from the The Rockefeller Foundation’s NYC Cultural Innovation Fund, The New York Community Trust and others, momentum has extended beyond the working group to include a network of advisors and followers (visit us on Facebook and Twitter).

Attending monthly meetings and through ongoing sub-committee projects, Working Group members…

  • Advocate for policies…that support asset-based cultural work in our neighborhoods.
  • Promote the value of local practice…by identifying connections between artists, cultural workers and local communities.
  • Collaborate on programs…that scale up ways of understanding and promoting our values while building local capacity for our members.
  • Compile research…that profiles local work, like mapping cultural resources and documenting innovative features."
