Description

"The Makernet pilot was action research in 2016-17 by a number of like-minded organisations interested in exploring the potential of Networked Local Manufacturing to improve the availability of useful products and technologies and therefore improve quality of life, at the same time as creating business opportunities and jobs.

The pilot undertook research in Nairobi with a focus on simple medical devices. It demonstrated a clear market opportunity to supply local health providers with locally made medical devices to fill existing shortfalls in supply.

The project determined that the key to catalysing the market is developing and sharing business models and facilitating connections between makers and markets.

Cisco, IBM and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) financially supported the MakerNet pilot project." (https://internet-of-production.webflow.io/about-us)
