First Mile Out is both a concept and a movement.

Concept Definition

"The technology for always on, ubiquitous, wireless connectivity is now able to move into the home in such ways that we must now talk about the First Mile Out from the homes of citizens. These modern 21st century citizens are fully, and all of, producers and distributors of their own content as well as consumers. The old business model of the last mile in to the home, occupied by a one dimensional, Pavlovian consumer, blinds people to the new opportunities and realities." The concept 'First Mile Out' is opposed to the concept "Last Mile Out". The former stresses that the user is the originator/creator of the value, from which everything else proceeds.
