Wooncoop

Thanks for introducing this, however I cannot understand why it should be listed as one of the Platform Cooperatives? Would you like to talk about your reasons? Simon Grant (talk) 16:07, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi Simon, wooncoop provides a platform for cohousing communities and co-living spaces. Basically you don't own a house, but you don't really rent it either. People rent a living space (this can be a whole apartment or just a bedroom in a shared living space) but more usually they buy a certain amount of shares in the cooperation which entitles them to a discount relative to the amount of shares bought. It's also possible to buy a few shares every month, enabling one to save and get extra discount every month, even if they don't have the credit-worthiness to qualify for a mortgage. This until the full value of the space is saved up, in which case you don't pay any rent at all. This enables people to step onto the housing ladder.

I believe this should be classified as a platform cooperative. If it isn't, then there are a whole bunch of other cooperatives which shouldn't really be listed on this page.

regards, Robbie

A platform in what sense, Robbie? My understanding from the examples given on the page Platform Cooperatives and the Category: Platform Cooperatives is that they are generally technical “platforms” in the sense of Facebook etc. etc. which allow people to interact over the platform itself, rather than simply being membership organisations that bring people together for common purposes. Which other Platform Coops is Wooncoop like, and if Wooncoop is not counted as a Platform Coop, which other ones should not be either? Thanks Simon Grant (talk) 18:53, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
p.s. see also Wikipedia: Platform cooperative – “A platform cooperative, or platform co-op, is a cooperatively owned, democratically governed business that establishes a computing platform, and uses a website, mobile app or a protocol to facilitate the sale of goods and services. Platform cooperatives are an alternative to venture capital-funded platforms insofar as they are owned and governed by those who depend on them most—workers, users, and other relevant stakeholders.”

In that case probably other the coops I've added will need to be moved somewhere else. In 2019 I talked to Michel about NewB bank and he suggested adding a page for it and mentioning it on the platform coop page. As the other pages I've made are coops similar to Newb but in different sectors, they probably shouldn't belong here. ( Nubo and Neibo).

thanks

Thanks for your recent updating work, Robbie, it is appreciated! Simon Grant (talk) 08:58, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
