Description

"The overarching aim of PfPP is to maximise the impact of participatory methods in public decision-making at the local, regional, national and European level.

To this end we will:

• undertake a critical review of existing approaches and methods, categorise them according to their applicability to particular types of problems and analyse the usefulness of new techniques, such as social media and stand-alone software (such as Intellitics), for citizen participation;

• develop a toolkit to help those promoting public participation to identify appropriate approaches, taking into account both the problem and the particular audience, and allow them to choose the best-suited participatory methods and cost- and time-efficient tools for outcomes of a high democratic quality;

• 'test' or validate the toolkit through a workshop with practitioners in public participation and academic experts in December 2008.

If the toolkit is positively evaluated by practitioners and academic experts, we plan to promote a small group of pilot studies in public participation on complementary issues to further develop and refine the toolkit during 2009." (http://www.mosaiconet.net/index.php?method=servizi&id=45)
