Open Cooperative
What does " Open" Mean and How Does it Apply to Cooperatives?
All manner of cooperatives exist in the world today, from two people sharing a donkey all the way up to powerful institutions where the members are gigantic multinational corporations.
When it comes to legal definitions in most jurisdictions a cooperative is organized in order to benefit the members. When that ceases to happen, either the member leaves or the cooperative itself ceases to function or even exist.
Peer-to-peer theory starts with the individual, and at the root of an Open Cooperative, then, we must ask ourselves:
To what end does it serve the individual members of a cooperative to maintain principles of Openness in their business interactions?
Here are some of the subjects to which the concept of Openness has been applied:
- Accounting
- Membership
- Standards
