Description
"In the global workplace, interdependent tasks are distributed across multiple locations and sometimes different organizations. To effectively perform work activities individuals must obtain the attention and time of distant others, who are working under different local circumstances, including time zone, nationality, and work culture. Data are being collected from a total of approximately 140 participants across 12 to 14 companies in the IT industry in India and the US. Two data collection methods are used: a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview using a critical incident technique. This research presentation focuses how IT professionals communicate in a globally distributed environment to effectively influence others, gain access to necessary research and achieve performance goals.
Mary Beth Watson-Manheim is an Associate Professor in the Information Decision Sciences Department in the College of Business Administration at the University of Illinois, Chicago."
