Jane Jacobs, activist and urban planning innovator, died April 2006 at the age of 89. In this 2002 interview she shared her perspective and ideas with GVTV:

Jane Jacobs, the author of "The Death and Life of Great American Cities" has been writing about cities for over 40 years. She has no professional training in the field of city planning, nor does she hold the title of urban planner anywhere. However, she has formulated her own philosophy based on her own observations about cities. Some of her views go against the traditional views on planning, yet her work is well respected by practicing planners and planning students alike.
