"Introducing private interests distorts the ‘public’ function of public services. There is no evidence that the interests of private profit easily coincide with the public interest in universally available, high quality services. A priority, then, must be to take public services out of private hands. That does not imply a return to traditional models of centralised control. There are viable alternatives."
