Description

"The Open Source Democracy Foundation is committed to improving our government by harnessing the Internet as a tool for education and advocacy. With a focus on cooperation, transparency, and a respect for the values of all individuals, we seek to maximize the impact of ordinary citizens on our democracy. We intend to effect change not only in the issues we advocate, but also in the mechanisms by which political progress is made.

The Open Source Democracy Foundation (OSDF) is a non-partisan, grassroots political organization that began with an impassioned post to Reddit.com, proposing an aggressive grassroots solution to an increasingly common feeling of political under-representation. The idea is predicated upon a simple premise: if the members of Reddit (and the citizenry at large) want to see our own views represented in the arena of U.S. politics, we should form our own organization dedicated to political action on the issues we care about.

Within hours, the idea became a reality as thousands of dedicated volunteers gathered to assemble the framework for an organization dedicated to representing and preserving openness, respect, and collaboration. In a matter of days, our members voted on the first issue we would address: Net Neutrality.

It is no secret that American politics are broken: as our political system descends further into dysfunction, we cannot depend on politicians to simply do what’s right. The goal of the OSDF is to create a mass movement that can speak with one voice to push politicians to take action on the issues we care about.

It is only when we can put our differences aside, talk to each other, and work together that we’ll be able to stand a chance to achieve our goals. There are many issues in our country today which almost everyone agrees need fixing, and we believe the OSDF can aid in the methods of fixing them. We are an organization that believes in a renewal of the strength of a people’s democracy. We support free communication of ideas, open elections where money does not decide who wins, and a transparent Government accountable to the will of the people. OSDF is open to anyone who believes we can improve the foundations of our governance. We welcome Democrats and Republicans, Liberals and Conservatives, Socialists and Libertarians and all others. Our leadership is representative of our membership and our goals, always striving to be as transparent as possible." (http://theosdf.org/about)
