Description

"Local money is created when businesses make donations, all in local dollars, to community groups of their choice. Community groups can spend the money in signed-up businesses, top up wages, or exchange their community dollar donations for Canadian dollars with anyone (dollar for dollar). Community way allows local businesses to support community groups without any cash costs, helps community groups fundraise, and makes it easy for everyone to donate without losing any of their buying power (as the money has equal value and is accepted all over the community). Most importantly, Community way keeps money circulating locally. As local dollars are only accepted within the community they move around and around instead of conventional money which tends to leave the community very quickly. Local money is always available to support the local economy. The Comox Valley already has a Community Way system up and running, so this summer the Wildfire group will be working with community groups to ensure their donations are used to their full advantage."
