John Gilmore:

"The first step in this project is to build a computer strong enough to handle the complex computing requirements of HGG, enter Constellation.

Constellation will provide Distributed Computation capability using BOINC (Berkeley Open Interface for Network Computing). Basically Constellation is a series of idle computers with the BOINC software program installed on them (you can install it on yours too if you want to participate). To date there are 10,000 computers hosting the project.

The main HGG team in Stuttgart is currently working on the hardware that will be deployed as a series of ground stations that will serve to track airplanes and eventually satellites." (http://bezdomny.org/?p=492)
