* Book: Homo Aequalis. Louis Dumont.

Discussion

Michel Bauwens:

This is the companion book to Homo Hierarchicus, which looked at the Indian caste system as an extression of a holistic society based on hierarchy, in contrast to a individualistic society based on equality, which is the subject of this book. But whereas the former is more a anthropological study, the latter focuses more on the history of ideas, i.e. how the idea of equality could grow from within a holistic society and gradually overturn its premises.
