I am a Principal Scientist at the Palo Alto Research Center. My area of expertise is user experience research. This means that I study people to understand their practices, problems, and requirements for future technology, and I design and analyze human-centered systems, focusing on users.

I have recently become very interested in P2P exchange systems and in particular requirements for smart and context-aware technology to make service exchange recommendations that are sensitive to the time, place, availability and current and predicted activity of an exchange member. In collaboration with Prof. John M. Carroll at Penn State U., I obtained funding from the NSF to develop a mobile app for timebanking on the way to realizing the smart and context aware vision that we have. In collaboration with Oliver Brdiczka at PARC and Anind Dey at CMU, we are currently seeking more funding to push this research agenda forward.
