Hi all - I put the list of core members in alphabetical order - hope thats cool with everybody! :-) cheers mathieu

Don't you feel that having a "core group of peer to peer researchers" is a tad elitist and/or exclusive? To quote Groucho Marx, "PLEASE ACCEPT MY RESIGNATION. I DON'T WANT TO BELONG TO ANY CLUB THAT WILL ACCEPT PEOPLE LIKE ME AS A MEMBER". Holtzermann17 22:58, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

not sure if matthieu should answer that ... but the list is decriptive not exclusive, it lists the people that we know who are most involved in p2p studies ... anybody with the same effort can be part of the list ... any social system has to combine both inclusivity and mechanisms for selecting excellence ... so a 'tad' of elitism is part of any system .. the issue for me would rather be, how does the mechanism work, it is fair and does it really bring out the best? but here, it's just a list, to make it easier for people to find each other ..

I understand that the group is only just forming, but right now the ONLY semantics that are at all apparent are those of inclusion/exclusion -- not yet the potentially much more interesting semantics of mutual support, assistance to others, etc. If members of the "core group" are actively working on designing and engineering a system with these features, that's great! But right now that isn't what comes across from this page, except, briefly, in the To Do list at the bottom. Holtzermann17 14:00, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Let me add another quote that describes my critique, and that also offers a potential model for this group: " Excluded from the game, their revolt henceforth aims at the rules of the game. This revolt can remain ambiguous if it is experienced as anomie and as defeat, if it occupies by default the marginal position assigned to it by the system or if it is institutionalized as marginal. But it is enough that it radically adopts this forced exteriority to the system in order to call the system into question, no longer as functioning in the interior but from the exterior, as a fundamental structure of the society, as a code, as a culture, as an interiorized social space." Jean Baudrillard. Holtzermann17 14:11, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Holtzermann17, I agree, 'core' members is a problematic expression. We changed it several hours ago, now it's called 'working list'. If you had checked it out before posting you would have saved yourself the hassle of quoting JB. Cheers.

LOL, of course I checked it out the main page before posting! But I love quoting Jean Baudrillard, especially when he has something to say that is so apposite - really, it's no hassle at all. I sincerely think that that quote could be a good model for this group to consider adopting; come to think of it, there are many more Baudrillard quotes in a paper I recently wrote, which might also be at least somewhat relevant to your considerations here: http://paragogy.net/ParagogicalPraxisPaper -- this discusses "rich online learning environments", but what is a research environment but a learning environment "for grownups"?
