Tom Attlee says about his book: “This 1918 classic explains the first vision of holistic democracy and has a greater density of quotable material on this subject than anything we know of.

Review

Short reading note from Michel Bauwens, 2004:

"This book was written in the early 20th cy. but sounds surprisingly contemporary.

In the introduction, she states that there is no true individual (the object of psychology) and no true society (the object of sociology) but only groups and group units, the 'social individual'.

For true democracy to arise, beyond 'majority rule' and its dictates to minorities, we must learn to understand group processes. She makes a distinction between the law of the crowd (based on suggestion and imitation), and true association.
