as in mobile communications systems, a rise of the power consumption of 16-20% per year can be observed in the last years, corresponding to a doubling every 4-5 years. ... As result of this development, server farms meanwhile consume approximately 180 billion kWh of electricity per year – over 1% of the world-wide electricity consumption."
