Description

Translated from the French:

"For the past four years, the "Digital Commons Policies" working group of the GDR Internet, AI, and Society has been organizing a seminar dedicated to the interdisciplinary field of digital commons studies. The objective of this study day will be to take a forward-looking assessment of this field of research, set against a context of relative stabilization in the relationships between the hegemonic actors of digital capitalism and the more marginal actors of the digital commons.

On one hand, major digital corporations are increasingly integrating or co-opting dynamics specific to the digital commons—whether they be open collaboration models, free licenses, or shared infrastructures—in order to secure their dominant position. On the other hand, actors within the digital commons, though minor in terms of resources and power, benefit from a certain legitimacy, supported by institutional discourses on open innovation, digital sovereignty, or the public interest.

Far from a harmonious convergence, these relations reflect a shift of conflicts towards more systemic issues (ecological, political, etc.) which will be the focus of our study."
