Definition

"Dataveillance is the use of paper or electronic records as a means of surveillance. The use of dataveillance is primarily a form of passive surveillance, related to the production of data profiles of the individuals being targeted. From these profiles other information can be determined or guessed that answers a number of queries about the habits of that person." (http://www.internetrights.org.uk/glossary.shtml)
