Description

Andrea Farias:

"The bioregional movement is a diverse and evolving ecosystem of people, teams, organizations, and institutions working to realign human systems with ecological principles. While practices vary across contexts, the unifying thread is a commitment to relocalizing knowledge, governance, and economies based on the unique characteristics of each bioregion.

Within this broader landscape, multiple layers of communities of practice (CoPs) can be identied:

1. Bioregional Organizing Teams: These are place-based groups actively working within their territories to implement regenerative practices, build community capacity, and develop local governance models. Each team constitutes a community of practice in its own right.

2. Learning Networks: These are organizations or alliances that connect multiple bioregional teams. They provide resources, facilitate peer learning, and ofer support. An organizing team may participate in one or more of these networks—or none at all.

3. The Bioregional Movement as a Whole: Despite its distributed and decentralized nature, the bioregional movement can itself be viewed as a large-scale, loosely connected community of practice. Shared values and goals create cohesion across diverse eforts.

These interrelated communities of practice provide the social foundation for developing bioregional knowledge commons—an infrastructure that both supports and is shaped by their work. Many learning networks within this ecosystem are already stewarding rich bodies of knowledge, tools, and practices"
