Description

Pat Conaty et al.:

"In the UK the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has not supported a strategy like the FNV has pursued to sponsor the set up of general unions for the self-employed. What has developed in the UK without any specific TUC strategy in place has been an evolution of self-employed services in particular work and trade sectors pursued by separate trade union members of the TUC There have always been groups of workers in certain industries where self-employment has been strong. The film industry and acting profession are one such example. Companies are often formed to produce a film and then disband. Thus it is the media and entertainment sector where a number of trade unions are active in recruiting and supporting self-employed workers."
