Stephen Stretton is an economic researcher currently working on a commissioned private research project on the reform of the UK tax and benefit system. He has degrees in Maths and Physics, Economics and Philosophy. He has previously worked in academia and financial risk management.

Stephen Stretton studied Maths and Physics at University of Cambridge, graduating with 1st class honours in 2001. He worked for three years in mathematical modelling of credit risk and building a full suite of models to manage the large corporate loan portfolio at Barclays Capital. He also took a part-time Masters degree in philosophy, at Birkbeck College London, focussing on Aristotle and collective action problems.

In 2005, Stephen returned to Cambridge and completed a further Masters degrees in Economics at the University of Cambridge, specialising in the economics of energy system and climate change mitigation. He founded the Cambridge Zero Carbon Society, which educates students and the public about climate change and argues for an energy system consistent with economic prosperity and climate stabilization.

Stephen worked for two years as a Research Associate at Cambridge Centre for Climate Change Mitigation Research (4CMR), part of the Department of Land Economy at the University of Cambridge, with responsibilities in energy technologies and economic modelling of climate change policy. He's also worked for financial institutions such as Barclays, Lloyds and Credit Suisse.

Stephen enjoys classical music; cricket; and the great outdoors.
