" it means (basically) the "coming together of different households" and this is the basis of the Ancient Greek "polis" or city state, which, as you know, was nothing like our current concept of a nation. Syn is the prefix "together with", like synergy, symbiosis, etc.

What about coining a word with syn in it instead of the simple "economy"?" (fb, ouishare global, december 2013)
