Sebastian Gallehr was born on January 30th, 1965 in Hamburg. After high school he moved
to Braunschweig to pick up studies in energy- and process-technology at the Technical
University, from which he graduated as an engineer (master) in 1996. Gallehr married in
1997 and since him and his wife enjoy raising their two children.
During his studies Sebastian founded his first private venture in the sector of sustainable energy. Several units followed throughout his career. As manager and director of several SMEs as well as head of unit in a large corporation (Nuon), he gained business experience in the areas of renewable energies, carbon management, emissions trading, energy supply, energy efficiency, smart metering, energy management, energy infrastructures as well as risk management.
In April 2003 Sebastian established GALLEHR+PARTNER Sustainable Risk Management as majority shareholder and managing director. Within 7 years GALLEHR+PARTNER developed into the leading consultant firm for carbon emissions strategies and carbon management services. Its customer base comprises some 80 industrial, energy and aviation companies. GALLEHR+PARTNER offers consulting and services around emissions trading, carbon foot-printing, energy management, renewable energy project development and financing, IT-implementation as well as risk management implementation to the stationaryand the aviation-industry.
Since March 2002 Sebastian heads the European Business Council for Sustainable Energy (e5). e5 was founded in 1996 as a business-focused initiative whose purpose is advocating the full potential of sustainable energy in the European Union (EU) based on the five principles: energy, economy, efficiency, environment and employment. The organisation currently represents some 110 European enterprises.
In his capacity as CEO of e5 and since 2004, Sebastian is a council member of the European Climate Forum. In 2009 he took over the responsibility for developing the ECF Capacity Center to promote the dialogue between political, scientific and private sector stakeholders within the broad field of climate change.
Well aware that renewable energies are our way forward into a low carbon economy, Sebastian started to level the playing field for a concentrated solar power production in the EU-MENA region as early as 2002. Since 2008 he is one of the initial co-founders of the DESERTEC foundation.
