In 2010, a dozen Brussels associations co-founded the non-profit Platform Community Land Trust in, with the intent to promote the CLT model. They rallied around a common charter and called on the Brussels government to allow an experiment. The following year, the Brussels government ordered a study into the feasibility of establishing a CLT in the Region. That study was completed in June 2012. Subsequently received the association Platform CLT Brussels, which until then had mainly turned on volunteers and with the support of the member associations, operating subsidies to create the actual trust. That was in 2013. Two structures make up the Brussels CLT. The Foundation of Public Utility CLT Brussels owns the land on which the CLT homes will be built. The Association CLT Brussels is responsible for the daily operation. The new structure is like a classic CLT, managed by a board of management for a third party composed of representatives of the (future) inhabitants, one third by representatives of the public interest, and one third by representatives of the Brussels Region.
