I'm a Professor Emeritus of Physics at the | University of British Columbia. That means I'm retired, but only in the sense of not getting paid any more; I still do some of the same research on | µSR that I did at the | TRIUMF CMMS for the past half century or so, and I teach occasionally, but at the [https:www2.viu.ca/eldercollege/ | ElderCollege] of [https:www.viu.ca | Vancouver Island University] rather than at UBC. For instance, in Nov-Dec 2017 I gave a course entitled "| What Will The Future Be Like?" which wound up focusing a lot on socioeconomic models such as agalmics, which eventually led me here. My students asked if we could continue our discussions after the course finished, so I set up a monthly "Philosophers' Cafe" sort of event focuses on "Possible Futures", which I tentatively named "The Futurological Congress" after Stanislaw Lem's infamous novel. (That may be a little too bleak for us, though.)

In case it's not already obvious, I am also a lifelong SF fan with writerly aspirations that are starting to look a little unattainable in this lifetime.
