The blue ones have sub-categories -- places within the country, or regions, etc. | |||

why are some triangle-links deeper blue instead of grey ?

The blue ones have sub-categories -- places within the country, or regions, etc.
If you click on the blue triangle, you get the expansion.
UK is a good example. Except I don't know why there is no England! :)
