I worked for 12 years as a director of a workers’ co-operative before building an academic career at Sheffield Hallam University through a PhD study of co-operative social enterprises. I have been a faculty member since 2003 with a research focus on the development of democratic relations in informal and formal organisations. With a strong interest in the impact of workplace democracy on corporate governance, my current focus is on developing practice through directorships with Social Enterprise Europe Ltd and FairShares Association Ltd. At present, I am the academic lead for Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME) and a new MBA in Co-operative Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship at Sheffield Business School.
