Deliberative Housing Development Model
Description
Benjamin Preiss:
"Apartment buyers can save up to 30 per cent and get a home tailored to their tastes if they work directly with architects, a Swinburne University research paper says.
It recommends the "deliberative development" model in which a group of intending owner-occupiers becomes the "proponent" of an apartment building instead of a developer.
"We argue, given the savings and other benefits, deliberative development should become a new, competitive force for housing innovation in Australia," the researchers say.
Report co-author Andrea Sharam said prospective neighbours could form a legal co-operative and then develop an apartment building together with architects.
"You get like-minded people who want similar things being able to co-design, to some extent, the apartments that they want," she said." (http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/scrap-developers-for-cheaper-better-apartments-say-researchers-20150809-giuvgf.html)
