Summary of Research Interests

Via email, April 2009:

"Since September and for the next 2 years I am doing a Ph.D. research with the title "Networking 2.0. An aesthetic, technological and social critique of collective art" (Aarhus University, Denmark) and I am teaching an M.A. class about "Hacktivism and Networking. From Mail Art to Web 2.0".

I am investigating in the networking practices online and not, with an aesthetical and social perspective, analyzing topics as hacktivism and net art. I also wrote a book, "Networking. The Net as Artwork", published by the Digital Aesthetics Research Centre of Aarhus University. The book describes the evolution of the Italian hacktivism and net culture from the 1980s till today and it is a reconstruction of the history of artistic networking in Italy and of the Italian hacker community.

Next August I will go to the USA, at Stanford University, and I will be there for 4 months to investigate how networking practices in grassroots communities are able to change the model of production of Internet contents and artistic creations. Therefore I will study the development of hacker ethics in the Silicon Valley and in the underground scene in San Francisco, CA. This thread connects Avant-garde practices from Fluxus to Mail Art with Web 2.0 social networks."
