"The ORIGIN control system orchestrates energy demand within a community with the aim of better aligning it to local renewable generation This is leading to imported energy savings and associated financial and on and off site emission benefits. User-friendly tools are providing energy demand and supply forecasts and these are used to suggest when to do certain tasks or in some cases to actuate tasks. A simple example of this would be to propose the scheduling of energy demanding tasks, such as operating a washing machine, in periods of expected high renewable energy supply. The expected renewable energy supply forecast is based on weather forecasting predictions used to calculate the potential wind and or solar energy. The project is also exploring possible business models for the commercialisation of this system."
