Description

"Developing Latin America is a collaborative, regional initiative that challenges citizens to create innovative applications that solve social problems common to the region, such as education, security, public budget, agriculture, poverty, violence, and transparency. Until recently, most attempts to tackle these issues have been isolated, limiting the potential and effectiveness of these powerful solutions. Developing Latin America (DAL) unites these efforts, creating higher impact, scalable applications.

Hundreds of web developers, graphic designers, entrepreneurs, journalists, and public and private sector representatives get together every year to participate in this regional marathon of Open Data. This data creates a profound impact in the lives of the citizens of Latin America. The hackathon is powered by Open Data, making the governments of the region more transparent, holding public officials accountable, involving the citizenship in the processes, and improving the democracy of the society."
