"The purpose of the Foundation is to promote economic and social change through the process of Commons Equity Society formation, initially in the UK. Our vision is to have at least one Commons Equity Society in every region of the UK and beyond.

We research, promote and support the development of new models of mutual ownership, financing and governance to benefit communities. Our particular interest is in self-sustaining and self-regulating mechanisms that have the potential to deliver sustainability, economic security, commons ownership, social equality and shared additional value and resources with communities.

The potential of community benefit structures in owning surplus-producing enterprises and assets is an area that research suggests has the potential to produce substantial investment, independent of government, in areas that are vital to community wellbeing such as education, apprenticeship training, conservation, health, arts, social care and farming."
