Description

Pat Conaty:

They began in the 1970s and have spread internationally. The early focus was organising women in the informal sector and now have moved to organising men and women. Previously only strong in developing countries they are now operating in nine eastern European countries. They are a fantastic example of solidarity economics as led by women originally in India they have developed several levels of mutual aid: co-op savings, co-op finance, co-op purchasing, co-op marketing, trade union recruitment for self-employed workers and political advocacy."
