Michel Bauwens Explains the FLOK Transition Project to an Integral Theory Conference
Video produced to participate in a conference organized in India, Beyond The Human, invited by Rick Carlson.
This is a structured introduction to the FLOK Society Project
Description
Richard Carlson writes:
""The video was extremely well received at our conference entitled Beyond the Human with the discussions revolving around the fact that although we received a sufficient number of papers concerned with theorizing the dialog between critical post humanism vs post colonial studies that in fact, what you all were doing with your project was actually applying much needed economic solutions to the divide between the have and have nots that Advanced Global Capitalism is increasingly creating with its hierarchical financial model. As such we were all much impressed by your efforts. "
On the context, i.e. the specific panel:
"With colonialism and the creation of east-west/north-south axial divides a new ethics of the posthuman presents itself. The narrative of technological perfection, a seemingly democratic gesture of modernity, hides within its imperialistic genealogy, the creation and personalization of privilege coupled to the circulations of global capital. We are endeavoring to explore to what extent are such discourses of human exceeding germane to the postcolonial consciousness. We wish to foreground the impact of neo-liberal techno-capitalism and its ethical appropriateness for so called “third-world” nations so to imagine a post humanist telos that is critical of the wholesale embrace of advanced technology. How do those in underdeveloped nations faced down the realities of the new colonizing project of genetic mutations, surrogate motherhood, transgenic organisms and the patented genes of global corporations who extract maximum surplus value from native soil while exploiting indigenous resources that include their social, cognitive, agricultural and economic capacities."
