Some strange is happening in Hollywood movies: female characters become masculine, while the masculine is erased. This is neither replacing the masculine by the feminine, nor an androgynous synthesis. What is it then ? Jonathan Pageau is an orthodox icon carver.

"Disney's Moana is the prime example of the recent trend of replacing masculine imagery with the feminine in movies.

I offer an interpretation of the the symbolism in Moana and how it plays out the gender ideology that is being inserted into popular culture through media and education."
