Jeffrey S. Nielsen has been working on a Peer-based Compensation model for remuneration, which aims to combine "internal fairness and external competitiveness"

Four key elements of compensation: Base Pay, Variable Pay (commissions, bonuses, profit sharing, and equity), Benefits, Non-monetary Incentives.
