Description

“An interview with Marc Garrett and Ruth Catlow from Furtherfield, London. In this interview the two founders of the artist-led (de)centre for art and technology, Furtherfield, explain the conditions under which the organization was founded in 1996, what their early imaginaries were and how they arrived at their current interest in alternative economies and big data. On site, in Finsbury Park in North London, they run two physical spaces, a gallery and a commons lab, with a rich programme of exhibitions and workshops. Inspired by feminist concepts of knowledge, diversity and inclusion, Furtherfield engages with their neighbours in the park as well as with an international online community, through their online magazine and mailing list. Referring to the long history of the commons in England, they emphasize the importance of reevaluating the concept under current neoliberal politics of enclosure and privatisation in both online and offline environments.”
