Stefan Gruber is an Associate Professor of Architecture and Urbanism at Carnegie Mellon University, where he chairs the Master of Urban Design. His design, research and curatorial work is situated at the intersection between architecture and urbanism with a particular interest in practices of commoning and the negotiation between top-down planning and citizen-led transformation of cities. Recently, Gruber guest-edited ARCH+ magazine 232: An Atlas of Commoning and co-curated the eponymous travelling ifa exhibition. He is the co-author of Spaces of Commoning (Sternberg, 2016), The Report (MAK, Museum for Applied Arts Vienna, 2015); Big! Bad? Modern: (Park Books, 2015) and Vienna: Slow Capital (Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, 2011). His work has also appeared in ARCH+, Bracket, Frame, Le Monde diplomatique and MonU; and has been recognized and supported by the Graham Foundation, the ULI, the ACSA, the Academy Schloss Solitude, the Viennese Technology and Science Fund (WWTF) and the Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky Price amongst others.
