= The SIOC (Semantically-Interlinked Online Communities) Core Ontology provides the main concepts and properties required to describe information from online communities (e.g., message boards, wikis, weblogs, etc.) on the Semantic Web.

Discussion

SIOC was developed from 2004 and proposed to W3C as a standard in 2007. Its main drawback is the fact that it is rooted in a rather complex outdated approach using XML, whereas more recently, for machine to machine information transfer, the technical community has tended to move on to using the simpler and easier JSON The fact that the SIOC proposal hasn't been modified to allow JSON suggests that it is not currently getting much attention.

However, the ontology itself is of interest, and may be useful.
