Description

"The People’s Assembly Against Austerity describes itself as an initiative that "aspires to build a movement for social justice and develop a strategy for resistance to mobilise millions of people, through trade unions and local community organisations, against the ConDem government". It will "provide a national forum to develop links between trade unions, trade union councils and grassroots community based campaigns, and to build confidence of those promoting anti-austerity views".

It was initiated by non-governmental organisations/charities, social movement activists, trade unions and political parties and encourages people to participate through public assembly and organising & campaigning. The People’s Assembly Against Austerity is national in orientation and concerned with economy; public services; anti-discrimination, equality & social justice; and the workplace.

It was launched in February 2013 and is ongoing. Thousands of people are involved." (http://www.open.edu/openlearn/society/politics-policy-people/participation-now/the-peoples-assembly-against-austerity)
