"As indicated in Figure 1, a progressive diminishment of barriers to the creation of content and information has occurred since the development of language and symbols to reflect ideas and concepts. This timeline has enabled anyone with access to an internet connection to create and share information. The barriers of expense and technical expertise - such as printing presses - are now lowered to the ease of creating a blog or podcast. The ability for easy creation carries challenges of validating information accuracy and determining quality, but those are future challenges; implementation challenges arising from new tools are a secondary consideration to initially defining affordances.
