Description

"Interview with Jason Sigal/Free Music Archive (in English)

Tonight, I’m talking with Jason Sigal about his project: the Free Music Archive (www.freemusicarchive.org). The Free Music Archive is a curated resource and platform for freely available music (e.g. under a Creative Commons license). The idea for the Free Music Archive originated at the New York based freeform radio station WFMU (www.wfmu.org): “Radio has always offered the public free access to new music. The Free Music Archive is a continuation of that purpose, designed for the age of the internet.” Among lots of topics, we talk about the value of curation, the FMA’s approach to being an archive, sustainability of open content, and the compatibility of free availability and commercial uses of music. And we showcase a multiple curated selection (Andrea selects songs of Jason’s FMA playlist for this radio show: freemusicarchive.org/member/jason/spark_mix_for_rebootfm) of great songs you can find in the Free Music Archive."
